Managing Air for Endurance

Here are some great “recipes” for getting air and using it well:

• Take a deep breath of air and hold your index finger in front of your lips. Form your mouth as if you’re going to whistle and blow a steady quiet stream of air onto your finger. Do this for as long as you can, pushing down on your diaphragm to hold back your air. Repeating this exercise will increase your endurance.

• Hold a lighted candle in your hand. Take a deep breath of air and blow a steady stream of air on the flame making it flicker without blowing it out. Do this for as long as you can on one breath of air.

• Take a deep breath of air and rapidly say the alphabet or count numbers for as long as you can on one breath.
