Hi Friends!

Summer is an amazing time of year when the weather allows for swimming, camping, picnics, BBQ’s, and simply enjoying being in the great outdoors!      

For me, I’m getting a late start since I’VE BEEN IN MY OFFICE WRITING! 

Yes, I’ve been writing words–without music–in book form. Really! You might be thinking, “Big deal. Doesn’t everyone these days?” A lot of my friends are but for a musician like me, it’s been new and challenging.   


After working on my projects since last August, I’ve come up with two books!  First is my voice manual Cookin’ Up a Song which I began several years ago.  My fun-filled faith-based book for church volunteers is done and Live on Amazon!

That writing experience in itself would be plenty but the Lord has been laying on my heart to complete a six-week devotional for women called Revitalize! It’s nearly ready for print and you’ll be seeing it on Amazon very soon. I’ll keep you posted!

The Apostle Paul tells us, “Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God. He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant-not of the letter but of the Spirit,” (2 Corinthians 3:5-6). 

With faith in God and trust in the Holy Spirit, we can pursue our dreams!  Support  and patience from my husband as I’ve spent hours, days, and months typing away is greatly appreciated too.

One of my favorite new sayings is, “Never let you memories be greater than your dreams.”  Let me encourage you to keep looking ahead as God helps you fulfill your dreams too!

I’m honored to continue sharing encouragement from God’s word with you.  Thank you so much for your kind responses and support over the years!

Looking back, I came across an article  that I published back in 2004 titled SCATTERED.

Here’s what I wrote back then.   Do you think it still applies to today?

With all of the responsibilities facing me, it seems like I’m looking at a table filled with puzzle pieces and don’t know where to begin to organize them!

Consider my acronym


Stressful Circumstances Attacking The Truthful Encouragement Revealed Each Day!

The truthful encouragement?  God’s Word!

Here’s what James 1:1-3   tell us:  “James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes SCATTERED among the nations: Greetings.  Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.”

Perseverance means steady persistence.  In other words, don’t give up!

James continues in Verse 4, “Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

My frequent response: “But Lord, I am so overwhelmed.  I don’t know how to even catch up!”

James 1:5  “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.”

“Thank you Lord.   I needed that!”

Let’s pray:  I’m so grateful that You, Father God, are able to connect the scattered pieces of my life and create a beautiful picture that glorifies Your name.  Thank you for Your Holy Spirit who is always with me and that You’re in control of the trials and responsibilities that can overwhelm me.  You remind me, through Your word, that I can turn my eyes away from the cares of the world and lay all of my burdens at Your feet of Your precious Son, Jesus.  Amen!

That’s what I wrote back then.  I have new puzzle pieces on my table and they will keep changing.   What a relief to know that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever!

Hi Friends!

Blessings to you this chilly January day!

Yes, it’s a new year and I’m looking forward to all that the Lord has for us.  Aren’t you?

As I put all of my Christmas decorations away and put my antique Bible back in its place, I thought I’d share a little about this family treasure with you.

My King James Bible was a gift given to my great-grandparents on their wedding day in 1871. There are several pictures of my ancestors inside including the one below of Elizabeth Melvin.

What a darling great-grandmother-to-be with no clue that I would be mentioning her almost 150 years later!

I believe that Elizabeth treasured her Bible and that she prayed for her family.  Those prayers have made a difference in my being here and the Lord’s protection over my life.

It’s amazing to think that God has made me a caretaker of His Holy word, not just on antique pages, but His living, breathing Word!  We find it in book form, on the internet, audio Bible, braille; whatever form we can take to heart and hide there.

I’m greatly blessed to have evidence of my descendants.  Yes, I realize that.  But, as an heiress in God’s Kingdom, my descendants go back much farther.  You’ll find their stories in the Old and New Testaments.

As you look ahead to 2018, remember that Matthew 6:21 tells us, “Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”

Hi Friends and a Joyous Christmas to you!

Yesterday, a surprise beacon of light came from a distant window to shine on the antique Nativity scene under our tree. For authenticity, I created the cave setting to replace the traditional barn….this after visiting the limestone cavern below the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem.

You’re only seeing a few of my Grandmother’s antique figurines. With all the tiny statues circling the base of the tree, the natural sunlight specifically illuminated the manger for about 5 minutes.  How beautiful!

Light bends, you know.  It wraps around corners and reaches into obscure and unexpected places.  It wakes us up and shows us the way.

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”  John 8:12 NIV

I love how Jesus, the Light of the world, bends to meet us where we are; around the corners of our hurting hearts.  He shows up in unexpected places and illuminates our minds to the Truth of His word.  When we need direction, He shows us that He is the Way.   What a joy to follow Him!

Thank you Father God for sending your precious Son to us.  If not, how would we know of Your great love for us? 

May your Christmas be greatly blessed!

Help us remember the birth of Jesus, that we may share in the song of the angels, the gladness of the shepherds, and the worship of the wise men. Close the door of hate and open the door of love all over the world.  Let kindness come with every gift and good desires with every greeting.

Deliver us from evil by the blessings that Christ brings and teach us to be merry with a clear heart. May the Christmas morning help us to be happy with Thy children and may the Christmas evening bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts, forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus’ sake.   Amen.

Irregardless of the news stories and the uneasiness that surrounds us, I am overflowing with gratitude for the faithfulness of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and all that He has done for you and for me!

  • Jan’s mom, Val Brewer, as she celebrates her 94th Birthday next week!

Staying Focused in the Crowd

Hi Friends! 

Greetings in our Lord!  I hope you’re doing well today!

I’ve noticed from the recent posts on Facebook that many of you, like me, have been traveling this past month.

My husband Jan and I recently visited Times Square in New York City.  Yes, it was fun, exciting, entertaining, educational, tiring …certainly not boring in any way.  Another Christian traveler I was visiting with referred to Times Square as “over-stimulating”.  As I stood in the middle of it all, bombarded with gigantic flashing ads all vying for my attention, I would agree.

Also standing in the middle, was one solitary young man holding a small handmade poster which read, “Jesus loves you”. God bless that faithful servant.  To me, he represented God’s still small voice that speaks love, peace, joy, strength, forgiveness, and volumes more to us if we would just stop and listen.

The following day, after hours of walking, Jan and I settled for a cab ride where I managed to snap this pic!  See the carriage darting right in front of us?

In the midst of a massive traffic jam, that obedient, trusting horse followed his master’s lead and headed straight to a safe destination, Central Park.  Notice the blinders?

What was my take away from these new and interesting experiences?  I’ve considered that in the middle of all the worldly noise, I can choose to listen and trust God for His confirmation and guidance. Proverbs 3:5-6  I also need to put on a good set of Holy Spirit blinders to keep my focus looking straight ahead to Jesus!    Following these two basic life-principles would be using good horse sense, don’t you think?

What’s Going On?

Hi Friends! 

What’s going on?   Fires, hurricanes, and lots more!  Difficulties, sadness, and lots more!

Hold tight!  Hold tightly to our Lord; not only for comfort but for assurance that we are His!  I’m doing just that by making a commitment to spend more time in His presence and in His word.   Doing so will help both you and me get ready for all that the Lord has for us this Fall.

Ephesians 3:20-21 tells us: Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus…

As you watch, wait, and pray are you finding His joy, blessings, security, comfort, and lots more? That’s my prayer for you today!

God Sees the Heart!

Hi Friends!
I couldn’t resist putting this adorable pic in blog!Aquilla

I met Aquilla the Porcupine in a wildlife preserve on my recent trip to Alaska.  She’s doing just fine, wouldn’t you say?  (getting lots of delicious greens from the tourists)
I found that when petting Aquilla with a gentle downward stroke on her back, she’s actually quite soft.

What are you looking like these summer days?  I’m laughing because currently, my hair is full of chlorine from swimming, my nails are very short from gardening, and…I’ve been cleaning out my garage.   No pics of me on this newsletter!!!…. except for the one below, not taken in my garage!

I love that God sees beyond our messiness and our spiky quills when riled up.   I’m grateful that our He is consistent and not two-sided. God doesn’t have off days.   His beauty and His glory are unchanging and forever.

Psalm 119:2 tells us “Happy are those who keep His decrees and seek Him with all their heart”

My prayer for all of us is that no matter how rough or unfinished we are on the exterior, our hearts continue to beat at a steady pace following after the heart of Jesus.   He is the Author and Finisher of our faith!
